Let the Right One In follows the story of Oskar, a twelve year old boy living in a small suburbia in northern Wales. Oskar's life is forever disrupted when he falls in love with Eli who, initially unbeknownst to him, is a vampire. Our production explored themes of power dynamics, intimacy, violence, and adolescence. To explore these in my design, Wendy and I wanted to emphasize the life of the clothing; fitting them to the actors in a way that reflects worn hand-me-downs, grass stains from the playground, reflections of adult youth, and outward portrayals of behind-door violence.
Adolescent, lover. Protective, naive, daring, trying to prove himself.
Vampire. Eternal, powerful, determined, strategic, gentle.
Protective, obsessive, proactive, weary, distrustful.
